Prof. Dr. Anke te Heesen

Anke te Heesen is Professor of the History of Science at the Institute of History and Speaker of the International Max Planck Research School “Knowledge and its Resources”. Her research focuses on the materiality of knowledge-based objects located between science and everyday life and their application-oriented dissemination. In the research group “Applied Humanities”, she will follow the history of interview-based life course research, which as a historical concept experienced its first boom in early sociology and is again becoming politically effective today. Anke te Heesen is also PI of the Research Training Group “Kleine Formen” (HU) and has published widely (eg. about the history of the interview). Most recently, she was a Fellow of the Collegium Helveticum and Visiting Professor at the ETH Zurich (2023/2024).

Prof. Dr. Viktoria Tkaczyk

Viktoria Tkaczyk is Professor of Media and Knowledge Technologies at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Speaker of the Center “Applied Humanities: Genealogy and Politics.” In addition, she leads the research project “Raw Materials of the Humanities” and teaches at the International Max Planck Research School "Knowledge and Its Resources: Historical Reciprocities". Viktoria Tkaczyk has published widely on the history of early modern and modern aviation, architecture, acoustics, neuroscience, experimental aesthetics, and sound media. Her work has earned various fellowships and prizes. Most recently she was a visiting professor at Princeton University and a fellow at the HIAS in Hamburg. At the Research Center “Applied Humanities,” Tkaczyk embarks on a global historical inquiry, exploring the roles of humanities scholars in shaping and reshaping media infrastructures throughout the modern era.
